Canadian Pacific Kansas City Maintains Canadian Rail Operations as Signal Workers Begin Strike

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CP) said Sunday that it has activated contingency plans to maintain rail operations across Canada after members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Signals and Communications System Council No. 11 rejected its latest contract offer.

The company said the strike involves about 300 Signals and Communications employees in Canada.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City said rail service has continued without disruption.

The company said it is disappointed that a work stoppage could not be avoided, despite its proposal being consistent with the wage and benefit increases included in agreements reached with its other Canadian unions.

It added that it continues to urge the union to end the strike and accept binding arbitration, and remains hopeful that a resolution can be reached quickly.
