John Wiley & Sons acquired Emerald Publishing for $452 million.

The research publisher said Tuesday it bought the U.K.-based Emerald from Cambridge Information Group in an all-cash transaction.

Emerald is a scholarly publisher founded in 1967 with nearly 500 journal brands and 8,000 book titles.

The acquisition also gives Wiley proprietary content for use in AI and data analytics, the company said.

Emerald is expected to generate more than $85 million in sales this year, with an anticipated $30 million in annual run-rate cost synergies by the third year after the acquisition.
