Cadence Stock Rises as It Launches AI "Robot" to Design and Check Chips

Cadence Design Systems was rising sharply early on Monday. The company said it is launching the first “fully autonomous” virtual engineer for chip design.

Cadence and its close competitor, Synopsys, make software and hardware that speed up the process of designing chips. Cadence said its AI engineer—named ChipStack AI Super Agent—can now independently carry out complex work on chip design and verification.

Shares were up 7.3% in premarket trading. That was set to add to a 20% gain this year so far through Friday’s close. Synopsys shares were up 2.2% in the premarket after a fall the previous week following its earnings.

Cadence said engineers at Nvidia are already using its technology to run millions of tests to verify their designs and automation has the potential to reduce a typical five-week verification process to less than a day.

Cadence said the new autonomous capabilities of the ChipStack AI Super Agent will be available to early-access customers in the second half of the year. The announcement was made at the Computex conference, the annual event that acts as a showcase for Taiwan’s technology industry.
