Thai Tourism Outlook Appears More Upbeat -- Market Talk

0243 GMT - The Thai tourism sector's outlook appears more upbeat to DBS Group Research analysts, after inbound tourist arrivals returned to growth in May. The gain was driven by a strong recovery in Chinese visitors despite concerns about flight cancellations and elevated fuel costs, they note. The stronger-than-expected recovery suggests sector fundamentals are more resilient than the market expects, which could be a potential share-price catalyst for tourism-related stocks, they add. DBS favors Central Plaza Hotel and Minor International, as both stocks remain well below trading levels before the Mideast conflict despite improving revenue-per-available-room trends. Still, they flag that the conflict extending beyond 4Q could delay the sector's recovery path. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)
