GSK's Nuvalent Deal Makes Strategic Sense -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
06/09

1349 GMT - GSK's $10.6 billion acquisition of Nuvalent seems to make strategic sense, even if it is bigger than the deals the U.K. drugmaker has targeted in the past, Bernstein analysts say in a research note. The company expects Nuvalent to be different from its last big oncology acquisition, a $5 billion deal for Tesaro back in 2019, the analysts say. The Tesaro deal hasn't created value, but GSK will take measures to mitigate the dilution on profitability from the deal this time around, according to Bernstein. GSK hopes its broad geographic reach and the better tolerability profile of Nuvalent's lung-cancer drugs compared to available therapies can make the deal work, the analysts say. Shares in GSK fall 1.3%. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
