WPP Can Recover, But Investors Will Need Patience -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
06/09

1319 GMT - WPP still owns some of the sector's best assets and its recovery potential remains intact, but investors should brace for a multiyear turnaround program, Berenberg's Anna Patrice and Davide Amorim say in a research note. The U.K. advertising company has lost ground as peers pushed harder into data, technology and more integrated business models, while declining revenue and profitability pressures stoked market fears, the analysts say. "After years of gradual simplification under former CEO Mark Read, new CEO Cindy Rose is driving a more radical single-company model with deeper consolidation," they add. The pieces for a recovery are in place, but the ultimate test will be whether the company can deliver on its plans, according to Berenberg. Berenberg starts coverage on WPP with a buy recommendation and a target price of 405 pence. Shares rise 5.5% to 276.70 pence. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
