Evertec said a recent cybersecurity breach has exposed the transaction records and other data of some of its financial institution clients.
The San Juan-based fintech company said Tuesday that an unauthorized party used a third-party support platform to obtain certain clients' information related to transaction records and payment card numbers.
In some instances, customers' names and contact information were accessed, Evertec said. The incident primarily affected its financial-institution clients in Puerto Rico and their respective customers.
The company has taken steps to secure its system and said it believes the unauthorized party no longer has access to the third-party support platform. It is in communication with affected financial institutions and providing them with support.
The incident hasn't disrupted Evertec's operations or service to any customers. It is still conducting an investigation and expects to incur costs for both the probe and remediation.
Evertec said it isn't yet sure whether any potential liabilities associated with the incident would be covered by insurance.
The company's stock slid 4.8% to $21.51 in premarket trading.
