Sector Update: Energy

Energy stocks were lower late Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index falling 3.3% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) dropping 3.1%.

The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index was down 3%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index rose 1%.

Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 4.6% to $80.94 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract dropped 4.4% to $83.45 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures rose 0.9% to $3.15 per 1 million BTU.

In corporate news, DTE Energy (DTE) received a $1.6 billion loan from the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Dominance Financing to help lower energy costs in Michigan and modernize natural gas infrastructure, the Department of Energy said. DTE Energy shares rose 0.8%.
