Teledyne Technologies (TDY) said Wednesday its FLIR Defense unit released an automated monitoring device called CheMSense, designed to spot hazardous substances in the atmosphere.

The device inspects the air constantly and can recognize possible chemical attacks or toxic industrial hazards within 20 seconds. It uses specialized mass spectrometry for faster results without the need for filters or hands-on calibration, the company said.

Teledyne had also already deployed these devices in military sectors and expects to begin public shipments in Q3.

Shares of the company were up 2% in Wednesday premarket activity.
