Metropolitan Transportation Authority CEO Janno Lieber rejected Amtrak's request to join a memorandum of agreement on the $7 billion Penn Station renovation, saying he won't enter a deal with President Donald Trump without protections for the MTA's existing rights at the station, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
Lieber said the proposed MOA would strip the MTA of its authority to approve renovation work on the northern half of the station, where the Long Island Rail Road holds a pre-paid 160-year lease, Bloomberg said.
The dispute comes as Trump asked Congress Wednesday to direct $1 billion toward the renovation.
