Shares of U.S. airlines are maintaining their ascent as the price of jet fuel slides to pre-war levels.

As of Tuesday, jet fuel spot prices had fallen to $2.81 a gallon, according to Argus Media. They are moving closer to the $2.50-a-gallon level from Feb. 27, the day before the U.S. and Israel launched military strikes against Iran.

Shares of Delta Air Lines rose 3.8%, to $90.00, while United Airlines shares jumped 5.7%, to $128.44. American Airlines Group's stock gained 7.1%, to $17.29, and Southwest Airlines shares moved up 2.8%, to $50.77.

Jet-fuel prices hit a peak of $4.88 a gallon in early April. The run-up weighed on the shares of major airlines as investors worried about the expected effect on earnings. Jet fuel is the second biggest cost for airlines behind labor.
