Chubu Electric Power (TYO:9502) continued to present data intended to support its original misleading information even after its Hamaoka nuclear plant came under investigation from Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority, The Asahi Shimbun reported Wednesday, citing the head of the government agency.

According to NRA chair Shinsuke Yamanaka, the company manipulated data about the maximum level of earthquake shaking anticipated at the power plant to support its initial assessment, the report said.

The dodgy data was included in the company's application for restarting the No. 3 and 4 reactors at the nuclear plant, according to the report.

Chubu Electric submitted a report to Japan's economy ministry and the Nuclear Regulation Authority over irregularities in seismic assessment at its Hamaoka nuclear plant earlier this year.

The report found at least 80 cases of falsified seismic data at its Hamaoka nuclear plant in Omaezaki, with internal warnings going unaddressed for years, the report said.

Chubu Electric did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
