Align Technology (ALGN) said late Tuesday that its business practices comply with competition laws and that it will cooperate with the European Commission's investigation following a complaint from a competitor.

The company said the European Commission's action is procedural and does not represent a finding of wrongdoing or prejudge the outcome of the investigation.

Align said it disputes any suggestion that its position in the teeth-straightening market stems from unfair practices, adding that its growth has been driven by its products, innovation, and customer experience.

The company said its iTero intraoral scanner supports an open digital dental ecosystem and allows users to export scans for clear aligners other than Invisalign.

Align said its scan acceptance policy is intended to support clinical quality, patient safety, and system reliability.
