Fifth Third Bancorp (NASDAQ:FITB) on Friday posted second-quarter earnings beat.

The bank reported adjusted earnings of $1.02 per diluted share for the second quarter, topping the analyst consensus of 95 cents by 7.4% and marking a 13% improvement from the 90 cents delivered in the same period a year ago.

Revenue of $3.28 billion beat the $3.25 billion consensus by 0.89% and came in 45.7% above the year-ago figure, with much of that increase attributable to the addition of Comerica for a full quarter.

Tim Spence, Fifth Third Chairman, CEO and President said, "Fifth Third’s second quarter was another step toward the earnings power we committed to deliver by year-end. Our core business continues to grow, with momentum across our fee businesses, led by wealth and asset management, commercial payments, and capital markets. The results were higher returns and tangible book value per share growth. Our balance sheet is well-positioned, supporting net interest margin expansion and improved credit performance."

Fifth Third Bancorp shares fell 1% to $57.44 on Monday.
