Domino's 2Q Results were Better-than-expected, Baird Says

Dow Jones

0915 ET - Investors had low expectations for Domino's Pizza in 2Q, forecasting comparable sales down between 1% and 2%, Baird says in a research note. So, when the pizza chain's domestic comps ticked up 0.1%, the result was better-than-feared, analysts David Tarantino and Drew North say. "All in, we still argue that Domino's is performing reasonably well in a tough external backdrop for its core lower-income consumer," they say. Looking ahead, all eyes will be on the company's outlook for the year. The analysts say they will be looking for commentary on the U.S. demand environment during the call, and any sense of whether Domino's can sustain flattish comps during the second half of the year. Domino's rises 7% premarket. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
