Netflix's Cut to Data Disclosures Won't Help Investor Sentiment

Dow Jones

0904 GMT - Netflix's decision to cut its twice-yearly engagement data disclosure to once a year won't help to improve investor sentiment around the stock, Bernstein's Laurent Yoon writes. "In the absence of subscriber disclosures or other leading indicators of operating health, investors are likely to rely on third-party data, and the resulting 'noise' is unlikely to subside," Yoon says. Investors are worrying that Netflix's unchanged margin guidance reflects concern among the streamer's leadership. Moreover, revenue guidance narrowed to the midpoint of a previously forecast range could reflect Netflix's struggle to attract new subscribers, the analyst says. Netflix shares fall 9.4% premarket.(josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)
