Three Taiwanese delivery worker groups urged the Fair Trade Commission to reject Grab's proposed acquisition of foodpanda's Taiwan business, saying the deal would create a monopoly, weaken delivery workers' bargaining power and pose national security risks.

In a joint statement, the Taiwan Food Delivery Industry Rights Promotion Alliance, National Food Delivery Industry Union and Taichung City Food Delivery Platform Service Industry Union said nearly 90% of surveyed couriers opposed the transaction. The groups argued that Grab's ties with Uber Technologies, including Uber's shareholding and past business cooperation, meant the merger would leave Taiwan's food delivery market "two companies in name but one in reality."

They also raised concerns over Grab's partnerships with Chinese firms such as Huawei and Alibaba Cloud, warning that consumer and location data could be exposed if the deal proceeds. The unions said the risks were irreversible and urged regulators to reject the acquisition outright rather than approve it with conditions.
