Acme United Shares Rise After Higher 2Q Sales, Earnings

Acme United shares were higher after the company higher second-quarter earnings and sales.

The stock was 11% higher, at $50.93, after hitting its 52-week high of $51.88 earlier in Thursday's session. The stock is up 18% in the past 12 months.

The company said it had quarterly earnings of $5.05 million, or $1.22 a share, compared with earnings of $4.8 million, or $1.16 a share, in the same quarter last year.

Sales for the quarter were $62.7 million, compared with last year's $54 million.

The company said that excluding sales resulting from the acquisition of the assets of My Medic on Jan. 15, comparable three-month sales increased 8%. Acme United said the My Medic business contributed to sales growth, but due to the seasonal nature of the My Medic business there was minimal impact on earnings in the second quarter. As a direct-to-consumer seasonal business, My Medic has historically generated the majority of its profitability in the fourth quarter, Acme United said.
