Shares of Richardson Electronic rose after revenue and profit increased in its fourth quarter.

The stock was up 23% at $22.08 in recent trading, and has more than doubled since the start of the year.

The power grid and microwave tube manufacturer reported net income of $3.7 million, or 25 cents a share, compared with $1.1 million, or 8 cents a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings per share were 21 cents a share.

Revenue rose nearly 28% to $66.2 million, driven by strong growth in semiconductor wafer fabrication and radio frequency and microwave products.

Backlog grew 8.7% to $164.4 million, helped by an increase in power and microwave technologies.

Chief Executive Edward Richardson said the company has seen growth in green energy solutions. Canvys, its segment that specializes in visual technology solutions, also had a record quarter. He added that while the broader economic environment remains fluid, the company was well-positioned to build on its progress.
