Coinbase Global Reaches Settlement With SEC in Dispute Over Crypto Records

Coinbase Global (COIN) has settled its Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Securities and Exchange Commission with the regulator agreeing to provide additional documents and pay $150,000, the court filing said Wednesday.

The case involved Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, requests submitted on Coinbase's behalf seeking SEC records related to the agency's investigations into Zachary Coburn, Enigma MPC, and Ethereum's transition to a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism in 2022, the filing said.

The SEC had denied the requests, citing a FOIA exemption for law enforcement records, according to the joint status report filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

Coinbase sued the SEC and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. in 2024, seeking documents it said would show a concerted effort by US regulators to stamp out crypto companies, Reuters reported.
