Market Chatter: Trump Admin Set to Impose New Tariffs on Dozens of Trading Partners by Friday

The Trump administration is preparing to impose new tariffs on products from dozens of trading partners by Friday, ensuring its tariff regime remains in place as temporary 10% global duties expire, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The administration last month proposed tariffs of at least 10% on imports from 60 trading partners, citing what it said were lax forced-labor standards.

Bloomberg said it was unclear whether the final duties would differ from the initial proposal and that the plans remain subject to change.

The temporary 10% tariffs, imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act after the Supreme Court struck down Trump's earlier global tariffs, are set to expire Friday. Bloomberg said implementing the new levies before then would prevent a gap in tariff coverage.
