Ameren (AEE) unit Ameren Missouri said Monday it plans to build the West Alton Energy Center, a 2,100-megawatt combined-cycle natural gas power plant designed to provide baseload electricity, support economic growth and strengthen grid reliability.
The company said it filed an application with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking approval for the project, which is expected to be completed in 2031.
The facility is projected to create more than 1,000 construction jobs during development, it added.
Ameren Missouri said the plant will be built adjacent to its existing Sioux Energy Center, allowing it to leverage existing infrastructure and connections to help reduce project costs.
