Corning Sees Gorilla Glass Growth Despite Handheld Market Squeezed by Memory Prices

934 ET - Corning expects its Gorilla Glass business to outperform a soft smartphone market squeezed by rising component costs. CFO Ed Schlesinger says in a call to analysts that surging memory prices are pressuring device makers. The executive says memory prices are likely to impact the handheld market, with a mid-teens percentage decline in units. Despite those broader headwinds, Corning expects its mobile glass segment will continue to "outperform the end market." Schlesinger credits the strategy to "increase our content per device, with products like glass, ceramics or products for foldable displays." By expanding content per device, Corning expects to generate positive growth even as total smartphone volumes tighten.
