L3Harris Technologies has signed a framework agreement with the Pentagon and Lockheed Martin to quadruple propulsion production for one of the U.S.'s missile defense systems, as weapons reserves dwindle amid the Iran war.

The seven-year contract is for propulsion for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system, which is designed to intercept and destroy ballistic missiles.

L3Harris produces THAAD's solid rocket boost motors and liquid divert and altitude control systems for the war department's Missile Defense Agency. This contract marks L3Harris's biggest THAAD propulsion award to date.

U.S. officials have been debating over the impact of declining munitions reserves in the conflict with Iran, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

President Trump delayed an escalation of his military campaign against Iran as officials discussed the effects a major attack could have on the U.S.'s shrinking stockpile of air defense interceptors.

Last month, the Pentagon awarded Lockheed Martin a contract worth up to $35 billion to make hundreds of THAAD interceptors a year. Lockheed has also received a $4.7 billion award in April to speed up production of Patriot missiles.
