Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) subsidiary Waymo has accumulated $9,325 in parking fines in Austin, Texas, since launching its robotaxi service there in 2024, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday, citing documents obtained through an open-records request.

The report noted that robotaxis are regularly unable to recognize places they can stop at without getting in the way. The Journal said Waymo had paid $7,433 of the fines, while $1,892 remained outstanding as of July 15.

Waymo vehicles have received 83 parking citations, including fines for parking in tow-away zones, failing to pay parking meters and double parking, according to the report.

The company's largest citation, $519, was issued in 2024 after one vehicle parked in a space reserved for disabled drivers.

A Waymo spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal that the company reviews all citations and may contest those it believes were issued in error.

Waymo did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
