Robinhood Markets Inc. (NASDAQ:HOOD) CEO Vlad Tenev said more than 100,000 users have signed up for the company’s AI-powered Agentic trading accounts, though he acknowledged that current AI models still create friction when it comes to executing trades.

Speaking during Robinhood’s second-quarter earnings call on Wednesday, Tenev said the company deliberately launched Agentic conservatively by limiting it to stocks and requiring users to fund a separate account instead of linking it directly to their primary brokerage account.

Robinhood has since expanded the feature to support options trading, with crypto integration expected next.

“We’ve had over 100,000 people actually integrate and open up Agentic accounts,” Tenev said, adding that both assets under management and trading volumes on the platform have continued to grow.

However, Tenev said one of the biggest hurdles has been the user experience.

“Not everyone loves, surprisingly, going to a Codex or a Claude code and kind of stitching together these two apps,” he said, noting that the current setup requires a relatively high level of technical sophistication.

AI Models Still ‘Fight You’ When Asked to Trade

He added that another challenge lies with the AI models themselves.

“In many cases, the models themselves aren’t familiar with being used for trading, so sometimes they’ll fight you and they’ll say, ‘Well, I don’t know, I don’t really want to trade,'” Tenev said. “You kind of have to work hard to get it to do what you want it to do.”

Tenev said Robinhood is working to reduce both forms of friction while expanding Agentic’s capabilities across its broader ecosystem. The company plans to add crypto trading support and continue broadening the AI agent’s toolkit as it pushes deeper into AI-assisted investing.
