Stantec Gets $150M JV Contract for Coastal Protection on Charleston Peninsula

Canadian engineering and consulting company Stantec landed a $150 million joint venture contract for coastal storm work in South Carolina.

The contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, is to design critical infrastructure supporting coastal storm risk management on the Charleston peninsula.

Stantec said that in partnership with Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson it will lead the design of more than eight miles of integrated coastal infrastructure across Charleston's waterfront.

With a total program value of $1.2 billion, the designs will include storm surge barriers, floodwalls and levees, pump stations, and multiple gate structures for pedestrians, as well as vehicle, rail, and tidal flow management, Stantec said. Nature-based features, including living shorelines and oyster reefs, will be incorporated to support system performance and environmental function.
