Market Chatter: Yum! Brands Spoke With Michigan Authorities Before Taco Bell Ingredient Recall

Yum! Brands (YUM) was in contracts with Michigan health officials weeks before the company publicly warned customers about food-safety issues at its Taco Bell chain, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing documents obtained through a public records request.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services had a July 2 call with Yum on July 2 regarding cyclospora, a parasite that causes intestinal illness, the report said.

In a follow-up email, state officials asked to connect with Yum's supply-chain quality and communications teams to explore steps or notifications that might help reduce future cases, the report said.

Yum did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
