Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) said late Thursday it agreed to purchase Taalas to expand its computing capabilities with specialized artificial intelligence processors.

The target business creates technology that improves data routing while reducing memory bottlenecks tied to standard chip designs, the company said.

AMD plans to integrate the new systems into its hardware ecosystem to build comprehensive server-level systems, AMD said.

Shares of the company were up 1% in Friday premarket activity.
