Hong Kong stocks were little changed at the open on Friday as investors awaited the U.S. nonfarm payrolls report while monitoring renewed tensions in the Middle East.

The Hang Seng Index edged down 3.63 points to 25,526.65, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 9.30 points to 8,508.03.

Brent crude climbed nearly 4% after reports that an Iranian parliamentary committee was reviewing a bill that could restrict U.S. and Israeli vessels from transiting the strategic waterway.

Investors are now awaiting the U.S. nonfarm payrolls report later on Friday for fresh clues on the Federal Reserve's interest rate outlook.

Markets continue to assess whether resilient labor market conditions could keep the prospect of a September rate hike on the table.
