The streaming platform on Wednesday posted a loss of $25.7 million, or 25 cents a share, compared with a loss of $38.0 million, or 24 cents a share, a year earlier.
Revenue was $1.48 billion, below analysts' forecast of $1.50 billion. Shares fell 6% to $8.95 in pre-market trading on the lower-than-expected sales.
The number of paid subscribers rose 2% in both North America and the rest of the world. Subscriber growth was underpinned by high-profile events such as the NBA Finals and World Cup, Chief Executive Alisa Bowen said.
