US Equity Futures Rise Pre-Bell as Traders Await Jobs Report, Monitor Middle East Developments

US equity futures were edging higher pre-bell Friday as traders stood by for July's national jobs report and monitored developments in the Middle East conflict.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were 0.1% higher, S&P 500 futures were up 0.3%, and Nasdaq futures were 0.6% higher.

Iran released a draft plan for the Strait of Hormuz that restricts US and Israeli ships from passage, while other nations that harmed it would not be allowed to transit the waterway until compensation is paid, CNBC reported, citing Iranian state news outlet Fars. Iran and Oman are reportedly close to an agreement regarding passage through the strait.

In the latest round of earnings, Vistra (VST) reported a decline in Q2 net income and operating revenue.

Oil prices were lower, with front-month global benchmark North Sea Brent crude down 0.9% at $81.72 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude 0.9% lower at $76.62 per barrel.

The unemployment rate for July, scheduled for release at 8:30 am ET, is expected to remain unchanged at 4.2%, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

Federal Reserve Richmond President Thomas Barkin is slated to speak on Friday.
