New Citadel NYC Office Project Undeterred by Griffin's Feud with Mamdani

The feud between Citadel's Ken Griffin and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani doesn't seem to be souring Griffin's $6 billion office tower project at 350 Park Avenue, despite previous threats from Citadel.

The project is still on track, according to Griffin's partner in the project $Vornado Realty Trust(VNO-N)$, and is in the demolition phase. Vornado said it plans to exercise its option to expand its ownership percentage to the maximum 36%, with plans for Citadel to be the anchor tenant, occupying 1 million square feet.

"We are extremely excited and bullish about the potential returns from this project," said Vornado Chief Executive Steven Roth. "The brokerage and tenant community is buzzing, and we are already getting incomings for available space."

Citadel suggested in April it might not move forward with the project after Mamdani filmed a video about his pied-a-terre tax in front of Griffin's $238 million Manhattan penthouse, The Journal previously reported.

"We are about to commence the redevelopment of 350 Park Avenue, creating 6,000 highly paid construction jobs and supporting the creation of more than 15,000 permanent jobs in mid-town New York," Citadel Chief Operating Officer Gerald Beeson wrote in a note to employees in April. "The project-if we move forward-will entail more than $6 billion dollars of spending."

Meanwhile, New York City has gone ahead with plans for its pied-a-terre tax, recently publishing an online list of property owners who might be subject to the levy.
