U.S. Futures Rise, European Stocks Mixed

U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.2% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.1% in morning trading. Vestas Wind Systems added 15.3% and Balfour Beatty added 10.9%. On the other hand, Bilfinger dropped 7.1%, and DiaSorin fell 3.8%. The FTSE 100 was flat. Other stocks in Europe were mixed as France's CAC 40 declined 0.1% and Germany's DAX climbed 0.2%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index was flat at 96.19.

In commodities, Brent crude climbed 0.8% to $89.60 a barrel, and WTI crude gained 0.9% to $83.93 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 4% to 61.11 euros a megawatt hour.

The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 1 basis point to 3.178% from 3.17%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell by 1 basis point to 4.685% from 4.696%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 0.8%, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 0.9%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite climbed 0.3%.
