Malaysia's Economy Likely Grew 5.9% in 2Q

0232 GMT - Malaysia's economy is likely to have expanded 5.9% in 2Q, marginally above the advance estimate of 5.8%, Hong Leong IB economists Felicia Ling and Chong Lih Herng say in a note. Growth is expected to have been supported by manufacturing and mining output, alongside expansion in services and construction, they say. Manufacturing momentum was driven by robust electronics production and global semiconductor demand, while mining growth was supported by natural gas output, they add. Hong Leong expects growth to moderate through 2H due to high base effects, although robust external demand for electronics goods and resilient domestic demand should continue to support the Malaysian economy.
