Americas Gold & Silver's second-quarter loss narrowed as revenue rose, while shutdowns at its Idaho operations dragged on production.

The Toronto-based silver miner on Friday reported a net loss of $5 million, or two cents a share, compared with a loss of $15 million, or six cents a share, in the comparable quarter a year ago.

The company said higher foreign-exchange losses, as well as higher loss on derivatives and increased taxes in the quarter, offset the rise in revenue and gain on fair value of metals contract liabilities.

Adjusted earnings were zero a share. According to FactSet, analysts were expecting a profit of two cents a share.

Consolidated net revenue rose 71% to $46 million, thanks largely to higher silver prices, but missed expectations of a greater rise to $49.9 million.

Consolidated silver production reached 665,000 ounces, down from 689,000 reported a year ago. The decline was largely due to lower production and grade at the Galena Complex in Idaho which was shut down for upgrades and an electrical fire.

The shutdown offset the higher production at the company's Cosala operations in Mexico.

Still, the company said it expects to meet its yearly target of producing between 3.2 million and 3.6 million ounces of silver.
