Shares of CuriosityStream climbed after the company raised its outlook for the year, boosted by a sharp increase in net income and a jump in revenue during the second quarter.

The stock rose 33%, to $3.72, in premarket trading Thursday. Through Wednesday's close, shares had lost about a quarter of their value year to date.

The media company late Wednesday posted second-quarter net income of $8.88 million, up from $784,000 a year earlier. Quarterly earnings came in at 15 cents a share, topping analyst estimates for 4 cents a share, according to FactSet.

Total revenue jumped 22% to $23.2 million, ahead of Wall Street models for $21.3 million.

Licensing revenue was $14.1 million, which the company attributed to new partnerships across traditional media and artificial-intelligence training.

For the year, CuriosityStream now expects revenue in the range of $77 million to $82 million, compared with a previous forecast of $75 million to $80 million.

Adjusted Ebitda--or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization--is now projected to come in between $18 million and $22 million, up from a prior outlook of $16 million to $20 million.

Analysts are looking for adjusted Ebitda of $17.8 million on revenue of $78.5 million.
