Shares of Comstock Holding rose Thursday after the real-estate company reported a sharp increase in second-quarter revenue and profit.

Shares were recently up 15% at $17.01.

Net income rose to $8.8 million, or 84 cents a share, from $1.4 million, or 14 cents a share, a year earlier. The results included a $4.3 million unrealized gain on Comstock's equity investments in Jericho Energy Ventures.

The Reston, Va., company said revenue rose 74% to $22.6 million for the quarter, compared with $13 million the year prior.

Comstock said its managed portfolio grew to 108 assets from 82 a year earlier. Its commercial portfolio was 92% leased at the end of the quarter, while its stabilized residential portfolio was 94% leased.

The company said it signed significant office leases with Peraton covering 284,000 square feet and QTS covering 77,000 square feet during the quarter. It also won a management contract for Dulles Town Center, a 1.4 million-square-foot regional mall in Virginia.

Comstock said its institutional venture platform generated $4.1 million in supplemental fees during the quarter following the acquisition of the Woodland Pointe office complex.

Its data-center platform also finalized a joint venture with Jericho Energy Ventures in Oklahoma, with development rights covering 6,000 acres. The joint venture also has secured a letter of intent from an energy-infrastructure company to provide up to 3 gigawatts of power to its assembled land portfolio.

Chief Executive Christopher Clemente said the results reflected the strength of Comstock's asset-light, debt-free business model and the diversity of its revenue sources.
