Paradigm Biopharmaceuticals (ASX:PAR) said an independent Data Safety Monitoring Board recommended that the company's phase 3 clinical trial of a knee osteoarthritis treatment continue without modification, according to a Thursday filing with the Australian bourse.

The trial is evaluating injectable pentosan polysulfate sodium in participants with knee osteoarthritis, with the change in pain intensity at day 112 set as the primary endpoint.

The safety board issued the recommendation after completing a review of about 80% of the participants who have completed dosing, the company said.

The trial's interim analysis remains on track for September.

Paradigm Biopharmaceuticals shares gained 1% in recent Thursday trade.
