Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) passengers were left stranded in South Africa for three days due to a mechanical issue with the plane that was scheduled to fly them to Australia, ABC News reported Friday.

The airline ended up using a different aircraft for the flight from Johannesburg to Sydney as the original A380 jumbo jet is still under repair in South Africa, according to the report.

In a statement to MT Newswires, Qantas said it offered affected customers a refund for the return leg of the flight and Uber transportation from the Sydney airport, in addition to a AU$200 travel voucher or 20,000 flyer points it provided earlier this week.

The replacement aircraft landed in Sydney on Thursday, and the passengers are aware that they are being reimbursed, the company said.
