Market Chatter: OpenAI, Anthropic Cut AI Prices to Compete With Cheaper Chinese Rivals

Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI and Amazon- (AMZN) and Alphabet-backed (GOOG, GOOGL) Anthropic are releasing cheaper AI software to fend off challenges by cheaper Chinese rivals, the Financial Times reported Saturday, citing its own research.

The FT described a "price war" amid attempts by companies to reduce AI bills usage bills.

OpenAI recently reduced prices for its GPT-5.6 Luna by 80% while Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 5 at half the price of its premier Fable 5 model, the report said.

OpenAI and Anthropic did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
