President Donald Trump on August 19 announced the nomination of Dr. Heidi Overton, MD, PhD, as the next commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In a post on X, Trump praised Overton as a "ROCKSTAR" in his administration, stating she has worked directly with Secretary Kennedy, Dr. Oz, and the team to deliver on what he called the "MOST TRANSFORMATIVE Health Agenda in History."

Trump highlighted Overton's ability to tackle the hardest issues and bring solutions that work best for the country. He quoted Secretary Kennedy as saying in the Oval Office, "Heidi is 'ALWAYS RIGHT.'" The president emphasized the need for her leadership at the FDA to ensure the U.S. remains the world leader in scientific discovery and cures.

Dr. Overton was a White House Fellow in Trump's first term, is a board-certified physician in public health and general preventive medicine, and holds a Ph.D. in clinical investigations from Johns Hopkins University. Trump described her as "SMART and RESPECTED by all." Overton will work with Secretary Kennedy and Dr. Oz to rapidly advance Trump's priorities, including faster cures, increased American innovation, major clinical trial reforms, lower drug prices, and more "MAHA WINS."
