JPMorgan Chase's (JPM) Copthall Mauritius Investment unit was barred from India's capital markets by the Securities and Exchange Board of India, or SEBI, over alleged manipulative trading linked to the BSE Sensex's Aug. 13 expiry, according to an ex parte interim order issued Wednesday.

The regulator alleged that the companies completed manipulative trades to influence the BSE Sensex Index price in way that benefits their options positions in the index.

SEBI has seized a total of about 36.8 million Indian rupees ($384,492.66) from the companies, claimed to be their wrongful gains from the transactions, according to the statement.

JPMorgan Chase and Mansi Share and Stock Broking did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
