President Donald Trump announced on August 18 the nomination of Richard Bennett to serve as a judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Bennett, a magistrate judge in the same district, has a career dedicated to public service and border security.

Bennett has worked as a county prosecutor, Assistant United States Attorney, Assistant Chief Counsel of ICE, and currently serves as a Magistrate Judge on the Southern District of Texas. He is a graduate of Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University School of Law, and clerked for Judge Marcia Crone.

In his statement, Trump praised Bennett as "a true warrior for Public Safety, Border Security, and our Constitution," adding that he "will deliver strong results in his new role." The President also highlighted his own electoral success in Texas, noting he won the state "by the Biggest Vote Total in the History of the State, all three times!"
