Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI said Tuesday that it is rolling out a new "ChatGPT for Teens" experience with additional safety protections for users under 18.

The safeguards include break reminders after 90 minutes of activity within a three-hour period, according to media reports, along with "Quiet Hours" and "Study Hours" options that can be controlled by teens or parents, it said.

OpenAI said it has also strengthened protections against ChatGPT using romantic language, encouraging emotional dependence or implying that it has feelings or consciousness, and added warnings before teens upload private or sensitive images.

Users whose age is estimated to be under 18 or who state that they are 13 to 17 years old will automatically receive the protections, it said.
