Hong Kong stocks closed higher Monday, led by technology shares as investors awaited China's July economic data.

The Hang Seng Index gained 336.38 points, or 1.3%, to close at 25,453.23, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 99.1 points, or 1.2%, to 8,439.97. The Hang Seng TECH Index climbed 1.6%.

Investor sentiment was also supported by signs of steady Chinese economic activity, with industrial production rising 4.5% year over year in July and the current account surplus widening in the second quarter.

Investors also awaited further July data and monitored developments around the Strait of Hormuz and their impact on oil prices.

Among individual stocks, Alibaba (HKG:9988) rose nearly 2% after reportedly agreeing to sell its gaming unit Lingxi Games to Asian private-equity firm Trustar Capital in a deal that could value the studio at more than $1.5 billion.

HUTCHMED (China) (HKG:0013) jumped nearly 5% after saying its savolitinib combination with AstraZeneca's osimertinib improved progression-free and overall survival in a Phase III lung cancer trial.
