AstraZeneca reported positive results from its Phase 3 trial of Tezspire in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis, an inflammatory disorder of the esophagus.

The Cambridge-based pharmaceutical company said Thursday that the drug demonstrated improvements across co-primary and all key secondary endpoints at week 24 of the trial, which were sustained to week 52.

The co-primary endpoints were histologic remission and the frequency and severity of dysphagia--or difficulty swallowing--compared with the placebo. The safety profile of the drug was generally consistent with its approved indications, AstraZeneca added.

The drug is being developed in collaboration with U.S. biotechnology company Amgen.

Tezspire is currently approved for the treatment of severe asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps in the U.S., EU, China and Japan.
