Nvidia Forms PAC to Bolster Its Influence on Chips and AI Policy in Washington

Nvidia launched a political action committee on Thursday in the latest acknowledgment that the artificial-intelligence boom is increasingly sensitive to developments in Washington.

The Nvidia Corporation Employees Federal PAC, which filed a statement of organization with the Federal Election Commission, takes voluntary employee contributions. An employee's contribution is capped at $5,000 a year.

An Nvidia spokesman didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

The chip and AI industries are bolstering their influence operations as federal policy becomes more important to their profits.

Nvidia, whose market value rose 9.6% to $5.6 trillion on Thursday, is sensitive to both policies on chipmaking, including manufacturing and export policy, and on AI more broadly, which is facing public backlash in the U.S.

Nvidia itself spent relatively little on lobbying until a couple years ago. In the first half of 2026, the company spent about $2.54 million on lobbying, according to federal filings, compared with $1.56 million in the same period last year and $160,000 in the first half of 2024.

Nvidia has lobbied government officials on a number of issues, including U.S. export control policies. Company executives have pressed President Donald Trump and others for increased sales of advanced AI chips to Chinese customers-an effort the government has resisted on national security grounds.

In an earnings call on Wednesday, Nvidia said sales of its H200 chips to customers in China made up less than 1% of its data-center revenue for the most recent quarter. The company sold even fewer such chips to Chinese customers than Trump permitted because of restrictions by the Chinese government.

Nvidia is also indirectly exposed to the backlash against data-center construction in the U.S. Several states have implemented or floated moratoriums on the construction of the data centers, which are often loaded with Nvidia's chips. Many candidates for the November midterm elections have made AI and data centers a target, finding that the issue resonates with voters.
