Market Chatter: Temasek Backs Singapore Airlines Investment in Air India Amid Scrutiny

Temasek, a majority shareholder of Singapore Airlines (SGX:C6L), has backed the city-state carrier's investment in Air India amid growing scrutiny over its stake in the loss-making company, according to Reuters on Saturday.

In a letter responding to a newspaper comment, Juliet Teo, joint head of portfolio development at Temasek, said the state investor views Singapore Airlines' decision to invest in Air India from a long-term perspective and will support it.

Transformation of the financially besieged carrier involves multi-year operational and integration challenges, with Teo adding that such efforts require time, the report added.

Earlier, Air India had requested about $1.5 billion in fresh equity from owners Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, the report noted.
