PG&E (PCG) unit Pacific Gas and Electric has teamed up with Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google and Tesla (TSLA) on a virtual power plant program aimed at helping communities benefit from growing electric demand, Pacific Gas said Thursday.

The companies, along with Carrier Global (CARR), Sunrun (RUN), Rewiring America, and others will deploy the new plant.

The power plant is a proof-of-concept that combines enrollment of existing home energy devices with regional deployment of privately funded new electrification technologies, Pacific Gas said.

The company is working with Tesla, Sunrun, and Renew Home to enroll about 21,000 existing flexible energy devices into the program.

Under the initiative, Google will fully fund customer incentives, technology deployment and program delivery, Pacific Gas said.

The program is expected to run through 2027, with initial findings likely in late 2026 or early next year.
